SILC Graduate Student Member and member of our Spatial Network.

Alex is a graduate student in psychology at UC Berkeley, advised by Terry Regier and Rich Ivry. She's interested in how people reason abstractly with access to strictly perceptual information about the world. What factors enable and shape abstract representations? For instance, how do components of our experience, such as perception, language, and culture, affect thinking about object locations and spatial relations? With SILC's support, Alex investigates how language and culture contribute to categorization of spatial relations, and what influences on spatial categorization hold across differing languages and cultures.
